Not exactly a Wally Pip Situation

While this may be akin to a snake charmer laughing when he see's someone else get bitten, there are few things I love more than watching on-air mishaps on Local TV news. Considering I used to be a part time sports anchor and have over 400, live play-by-play broadcasts under my belt, I should have sympathy and understanding for these fellow journalists. Instead, I am find myself with a sore stomach from all of the laughing.

Which of these two classic Sports Reports is Worse???
Matt Lorch

Brian Collins

My answer might surprise you. I am going to go with Matt Lorch, since he seems to be trying way to hard and his wardrobe is just a tad to nice to Quincy, IL. Plus, I find he has a striking resemblance to Dan Cortez of MTV Sports fame. Brian Collins was a last minute fill-in and fully aware of the train wreck unfolding before him.

One final side note, I just googled KHQA, the station Matt Lorch is is performing on. I actually applied for a job at this station in 2005, and NEVER heard back. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

  1. I have to agree with you about Matt Lorch doing worse. Both were hilarious though. Matt must have pissed off the audio and video feed person. Both videos made me cringe. Imagine being in their place, I would have become Bobby Knight and said "+*&^ this, I'm done."

  2. Which is worse? Hard to answer without additional clarification on 'worse.' Regarding the station, Lorch is worse. That failure is across the board while the Collins incident is limited to one person, not necessarily reflective of the entire program.

In terms of difficulty of viewing, Collins is worse. I can't help but absorb his nerves and actually see his career dreams dissolve in front of an audience. With Lorch, it felt like an early episode of Saved by the Bell where Zach is tricked on-air by Slater and the crew after skipping out on a study session at the Max.
